Sermon on the Mount: Love

“Turn the Other Cheek”

Matthew 5

Jesus Christ’s mission was to fulfill the Law of Moses and help people to live a higher way. That is why He began His ministry with the Sermon on the Mount. During the famous Sermon, He told the people what they had been expected to do under the Law of Moses was being raised to a higher standard. They needed to become more in order to live with His Father.
Jesus said,

“You have been taught ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say, turn the other cheek. If someone asks for you to walk a mile with them, walk two miles with them. Give to those that ask and lend to those in need. You have been taught to love your neighbor and hate your enemies. But I say, love your enemies. Do good for those who are unkind to you and pray for those who use you and mistreat you. You have been taught not to kill, and whoever murders will be judged. But I say, whoever is angry and resents his brother will be judged. If you bring an offering to the altar and think about how your brother has wronged you while you are giving your offering, go home first. Make peace with your brother, and then come and offer up your gift to God.”
