Brothers Trespass Against Thee

“by the mouth of two or three witnesses”

Matthew 18

Jesus had been asked by a follower, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

As part of His response, Jesus taught about how to react when people who are close to you act against you.

“If your brother acts against you, talk to him about what he did alone. If he listens to you, you’ve gotten your brother back.

But, if your brother will not listen to you, take witnesses of his actions to talk with him. Then you will fulfill the scripture that says ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’

If he still refuses to listen, take him to the council of the church.

If yet again he denies his faults, you may safely consider him outside the influence of God.”
