I would like to share how powerful fasting can be.
Around 14 years ago, at the beginning of my freshmen year of high school, I went to the doctors to get a required physical exam so that I could participate on the high school swim team. During that physical, they discovered my blood pressure was REALLY high. After some testing and going to see a cardiologist, we learned I had actually been born with a heart condition that was only just now being discovered.
Fast forward a few months to when I went in for surgery. The doctors assured us the surgery was very routine/straight forward, and they didn’t anticipate anything going wrong. However, complications arose. They didn’t think I was going to make it, but if I did make it, I would more than likely be paralyzed and/or have some other major organ damage. Miraculously (even the doctor said it was a miracle), I did survive AND I am not paralyzed or have major organ damage.
Now, what does this have to do with fasting? Well, after the surgeon came out to tell my parents it was catastrophic and things were going very wrong, my parents immediately called family and friends from church, school, and swim team. Word spread fast, and it wasn’t long before I had many, many people fasting and praying for me. I even had people who didn’t even know me fasting for me.
While the doctors may not be able to completely explain how I survived that day and am not paralyzed, etc., I know this miracle occurred in my life because 1) the Lord has a plan for me, He still has a work for me to do on this earth, and 2) because so many people of faith joined together and called upon the Lord on my behalf through fasting and prayer. Although I may just be one person amidst billions of others here on this earth, I know, without a doubt, that the Lord has the power to heal the entire earth. And I know He WILL heal us.
