Matthew 5 Jesus was followed by His disciples up on a hill on a beautiful clear day—the calm waters of the Sea of Galilee sparking behind them and the warmth of the sun hitting their skin as the Savior began to teach the people the best way to live. Their eyes were glued to the Savior and their ears listened to every word. After teaching the beatitudes, Christ explained the value of His disciples. “You are the salt of the earth,” He claimed. “But if you lose your flavor, what are you good for? The flavorless salt might as well be thrown on the ground and be walked on.” The people sat around Christ absorbing the meaning of this teaching. “You are the light of the world,” Jesus continued. “Just like a city on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a candle and cover it with a bowl, but on a candlestick to bring light into the house.” His disciples nodded their heads, gradually understanding Christ’s teachings.
“Let your inner light shine to others and see the good you do in this world,” the Savior said. “And always glorify your Father in heaven.”
