Matthew 5 “You have been taught, ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,’” He stated. “But I’m here to tell you that’s not how we should react.” Christ noticed that the law given to Moses started drifting away from its real purpose. The scribes and Pharisees misunderstood the teachings of “an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,” as allowing individuals to take revenge on those that caused injury to them. As Jesus clarified the real teachings given to Moses on Sinai, the people gathered around Him nodded with understanding. “If you get hit on the right cheek, do not hit back,” Christ continued. “You must turn your other cheek again. If someone wants to sue you and take your clothes, give him your coat as well. If someone asks you to walk with them for one mile, walk with them the two miles. Give what you have to those that ask for help, and don’t turn away people that need you and need to borrow you.” Those that were with Him re-lived the time Christ was sentenced to death, spit upon and hit upon, and He did not think to take vengeance upon the Pharisees. They remembered the miracles of healing and serving those that needed Him.
